Common Plumbing Issues You Should Never Dismiss

Herbert Chambers

Sometimes it is difficult to determine if what your plumbing is doing is an emergency situation or if it's really no big deal. Especially if you are unfamiliar with plumbing issues, you can find yourself confused. Here are a few things that you should know about times when it's best to call a plumber for inspection and repair instead of just ignoring the symptom.

Can You Hear Water?

If you can hear water flowing through your pipes, but there's no water running in the house, that's cause for concern. That sound indicates that there is a leak somewhere in the plumbing, which can not only be costly in water consumption, but can ultimately lead to water damage, if left unaddressed. You'll need a plumber to inspect the pipes and find the source of the leak in order to repair it.

Are Your Drains Slow?

Whether it's the toilet or a sink drain, if your drains are running slowly, that's a key indication that there's a clog or a blockage somewhere in your drain pipes. This is especially true, if you hear water draining from one pipe when the water is running somewhere else. For example, if you can hear water draining in the bathtub when you run water in the kitchen sink, that's a sign that you have a drain line blockage somewhere. You'll need to have the entire drain line inspected to find the blockage, then have a plumber clear it out for you.

Are You Having Pressure Problems?

If your home's water pressure is normally pretty consistent, but is now much lower across all of your faucets and fixtures, that's not something to take lightly. Usually, when you experience a sudden and widespread pressure drop like that, it's a warning that you have a leak in your incoming water lines somewhere. A marked drop in pressure could indicate a pretty significant leak.

In conjunction with this pressure loss, you may also notice that your water bills are increasing. The more water that leaks from the pipe, the more your water bills will go up. You should reach out to a plumber right away for help to find and repair the leak.

Understanding some of the more concerning, though seemingly minor, plumbing problems that you shouldn't overlook can help you to keep your home's plumbing in good shape and ultimately save you money, over time. Talk with a plumber near you, today, about any plumbing repair concerns you might have.

About Me
Hidden Plumbing Problems: What To Look For

When I decided to replace the plumbing fixtures in my house with new ones, the whole process revealed some heavily damaged pipes. I had missed all of the more subtle signs of issues, and only realized it when I had to work on the pipes to get the new fixtures installed. I created this site to help others understand what to watch for and what types of things to look at before they start working. Spotting problems ahead of time will make it easier to get the project done in one sitting. I hope that the information here helps others avoid the emergency situation and unexpected expenses that I found myself facing.
