Let A Residential Air Conditioning Repair Contractor Solve These Common AC Problems

Herbert Chambers

Air conditioning is a standard feature that comes with most modern homes. It allows you to control the temperature and humidity in your home so you can tailor it to your comfort. However, even the best air conditioners can sometimes malfunction. Here are three problems that any homeowner might face when it comes to their air conditioner:

1. Plants have grown into the back of your air conditioner.

Air conditioners drip water outside your home as part of their normal operation. This water comes from condensation formed by the AC's cooling action. If your AC unit is mounted above a patch of soil, its discharged water may cause weeds to sprout up and grow into your air conditioning. Over time, these weeds can wrap around your air conditioner's internal mechanisms, causing damage.

If you realize this has happened to your air conditioner, call an air conditioner repair contractor at once. Don't try to simply yank the weeds out of your air conditioner because this can cause additional damage. Do cut the weeds and pull them out by the root to stop the problem from getting any worse. Your AC repairman will be able to open up your air conditioner and carefully untangle the plant matter that has gotten inside.

2. The refrigerant level in your air conditioner is too low.

Air conditioners cycle refrigerant through an internal compressor. It's this refrigerant that allows air pulled into the AC unit to be cooled before it's blown out into the room. If your refrigerant levels have gotten low, your air conditioner's fan will still blow air throughout the room, but the air won't be properly cooled. If everything is working as it should, you won't have to replace the coolant in your AC unit. It's continuously recycled and shouldn't ordinarily run out. However, if there's a crack or puncture in your compressor, the refrigerant may leak out or evaporate.

You will need to call a repair service to evaluate your AC unit. They can fix the breach in your AC's compressor or even replace it if necessary. Once that's been taken care of, they will replenish your refrigerant to optimal levels.

3. The air conditioner won't turn on.

If you can't turn on your air conditioner at all, you should first make sure a power outage isn't to blame. Once you've ascertained that the problem is the AC unit itself, you know that a problem with the electrical components is likely at fault. It's possible that vermin have found their way into your air conditioner and damaged the wiring. Alternatively, a short circuit may have caused damage. Don't try to solve this problem yourself, since electricity can easily harm someone who lacks the proper training. Call a professional who can adequately diagnose and repair your electrical problems.

Hidden Plumbing Problems: What To Look For

When I decided to replace the plumbing fixtures in my house with new ones, the whole process revealed some heavily damaged pipes. I had missed all of the more subtle signs of issues, and only realized it when I had to work on the pipes to get the new fixtures installed. I created this site to help others understand what to watch for and what types of things to look at before they start working. Spotting problems ahead of time will make it easier to get the project done in one sitting. I hope that the information here helps others avoid the emergency situation and unexpected expenses that I found myself facing.
